Filipino members of St Barnabas and St Saviour’s churches in Walthamstow are inviting people from the whole community to join them in supporting the relief efforts following the devastating typhoon in the Philippines.
As well as encouraging donations via http://www.dec.org.uk and other charities, we are encouraging donations directly to the Filipino Independent Church, details via http://www.ifi.ph
We are also encouraging people from across the community to donate items for post-recovery which will then be shipped to the Philippines, Items such as tinned food (long life), easy-open as can openers may not be readily available; Antiseptic lotions/gels, rather than cosmetic soaps; Personal hygiene goods (toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary pads, cotton wool); Baby supplies (nappies); Practical clothing (warm climate- so things to layer is best- nothing thick or bulky); Blankets Toys; School supplies; Cooking utensils; Basic medical supplies; and Tools.
These can be brought, with any cash offerings, to St Barnabas Church, St Barnabas Rd, E17 8JZ at any time on Sunday 1st December, where at 5pm on that day there will be speeches from members of the local community and then, from 6pm-6.30pm, a vigil of prayer. All are welcome.
